What can go in a dumpster?
Just about everything, as long as it does not contain any hazardous chemicals, is permitted in a dumpster. You can throw mattresses (as long as there is no motor, or it is not a waterbed mattress). You can throw boxes, furniture, shingles, siding, toys, clothing, items damaged by fire or water, screens, sinks, concrete, shingles, metal, pvc, trash, construction debris, flooring, household debris including couches, china cabinets, book cases, stools, chairs, dressers, etc. can all be put into a dumpster.
You can put yard waste in a dumpster, such as grass, dirt, trees and branches, however, this vegatative material should be in a dumpster by itself, as it is disposed of differently.
What can’t go in a dumpster?
In general, nothing liquid or toxic can go in a dumpster. The dumpster gets unloaded at a landfill, and for health reasons, items such as fuels, oils, batteries, paints, lacquers, asbestos, medical waste, Industrial drums, contaminated absorbants or car tires cannot be put in a dumpster.
Most appliances can be put in a dumpster, such as refrigerators, freezers, washers and dryers, even air conditioners, but all hazardous materials, such as freon, must be removed first. We recommend that any appliance that has freon should be removed by a specialist, such as a HVAC certified professional, because the refrigerant must be completely removed before getting rid of the appliance.
Televisions and computers, printers, cell phones, even VCR’s should also not be put in a dumpster, due to the toxic liquids that may be contained in them.
